DWG is a powerful native file format in which files are saved in AutoCAD and other products by Autodesk (developers of AutoCAD) . But while we send these files to conduct presentations or to share our ideas with others , they need to have AutoCAD installed in their system . We cannot expect to have AutoCAD software installed in the clients computer . In such a context we can convert drawing to a file format which can be easy opened using the basic applications in the computer . We can convert drawing to image file formats such as JPG or BMP using the JPG OUT and BMP OUT commands or by using EXPORT command (in 2013 and lower versions) . These files are generally used for viewing but for printing PDF is the preferred format . Portable Document Format (PDF) is an open standard for document exchange. PDF files are secure and viewable and printable on virtually any platform, including Windows, Mac OS, and mobile platforms such as Android . In the latest version we have two options to export DWG file to PDF format .
1. Use EXPORT Command in the application menu of AutoCAD
2. Use PLOT command and choose DWG to PDF pc3 printer to print the drawing and we get the file printed in the PDF format .
These methods work in AutoCAD 2010 and higher versions and creates PDFs with a vector resolution of 600 DPI which can give us sharp prints in commonly used paper sizes . But I would like to post a method to convert the drawing file to PDF which is applicable to ALL VERSIONS of AutoCAD and this method can be used to covert any document in the windows environment on the fly to PDF . Just click on the following link , download and install cute PDF software and converter .
Once the software is installed , we get CUTE PDF Writer as windows system printer . So it can be used not only with AutoCAD but with any windows based software.
